A Steward creates and maintains a safe environment in a stadium on matchdays. Working with a team of Stewards and support staff, they monitor fans’ behaviour at a match and ensure it’s in line with the club and league’s rules and regulations. They’re also on hand to provide guidance to supporters, such as showing them where their seat is and pointing to the nearest public conveniences.
Appearing friendly and approachable at all times, a Steward works under the direction of the Safety Officer. This may involve on the spot searches at the turnstiles and constant risk assessments. Any supporters found breaking the rules are ejected from the stadium. On occasions, a Steward will assist the police in dealing with supporters involved in criminal behaviour.
DID YOU KNOW?
A Steward isn’t always asked to work inside a stadium. They can also expect to greet the public, manage the car park and help keep roads clear.

Experience of dealing with large crowds is highly desirable, ideally in a sporting environment. This can have been on a voluntary basis.
