SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

A Social Media Manager is responsible for a sport organisation or individual athlete’s social media channels. It is their task to produce entertaining and informative content that engages fans around the world and increases the channel’s following. On a day-to-day basis they share updates from training sessions, conduct interviews, liaise with sponsors, post live updates and cover events and functions.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Social Media Manager must not only have an understanding of sport, but also of the commercial possibility. They’ll have to work with the organisation’s sponsors to produce engaging content for social media channels.

RECOMMENDED EDUCATION

An English, Communications or Journalism degree is recommended. The skills learned from these courses will prove a sound command of the written word and certain level of creativity.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE

Experience of writing, blogging or journalism is often sought after. Being able to write engaging copy is an important aspect of being a Social Media Manager. Candidates should be familiar with all of the mainstream platforms and understand the latest developments within social media.
