BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

A Business Development Manager works to grow a sports organisation’s business in relevant areas. In collaboration with the Sales and Marketing Managers, they aim to meet sales plans and objectives while finding innovative ways to progress the overall business of the club. To achieve this, they’ll be aware of marketing shifts and emerging trends, which they can capitalise on to strengthen existing relationships and attract new customers.

There are a number of different business areas in a sporting organisation that require a Business Development Manager. They include community operations, regional growth, partnerships, hospitality and commercial sales.

RECOMMENDED EDUCATION

An undergraduate degree is essential. Attendance at sales and marketing CPD events can also help an applicant stand out from their competitors.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE

A proven and demonstrable record of sales success is the minimum requirement for applicants. Ideally, this would have been achieved in a sports environment. A history of driving sales from start to finish and collaborating with stakeholders to carry out successful strategies is also needed. Applicants should previously have managed a team and controlled budgets.
